069542. The Federation of Asian Motorcycle Industries (FAMI) agreed to launch the first multilateral three-year program for road safety at its annual general meeting held in Hamamatsu today. The program assigns the motorcycle manufacturers' associations in the FAMI member economies the task of educating motorcycle users on safe driving; of compiling statistics on traffic accidents; and of promoting the incorporation of additional safety technologies into motorcycles. The motorcycle industry today plays a key role in Asian economies. In fact, Asia is now the world leader in motorcycle production and sales, dramatically underscoring the need to develop a better road traffic environment in the region. FAMI will launch its program to promote road safety in Asia against this background. Summary of the Program:
